AT&T Provides Networking Services to New Jersey Automotive Retailers

   1423 days 1 hour ago (12:55)

TRENTON, N.J., /PRNewswire/ Automotive retailers across New
Jersey now can purchase voice and data networking services more easily and
less expensively, thanks to a $7.2 million contract the New Jersey Coalition
of Automotive Retailers (NJ CAR) has negotiated with AT&T.

The agreement allows the 650 members of NJ CAR, a nonprofit organization
serving automotive retailers statewide, to leverage the purchasing power of
the entire group — giving smaller members access to the same volume-based
price
advantages for AT&T services as larger members. Additionally, volumes
are «grossed up» across NJ CAR’s membership, meaning individual dealerships
don’t have to commit to monthly minimum or term lengths to receive
advantageous pricing.

The agreement covers an extensive portfolio of AT&T services, including
local, long-distance, high-speed data and Internet access services. NJ CAR
will provide provisioning and logistical support.

USA Datanet, a provider of long distance voice and Internet access and IP network services to 480,000 residential and commercial customers, joins leading Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers and consumer and wholesale VoIP providers in choosing Intrado for VoIP 9–1-1 solutions.

«Immediate access to basic emergency services is an absolute requirement for our VoIP subscribers,» said David Montanaro, president and CEO of USA Datanet. «Intrado provides our customers with this critical component right from the start. Furious over phone fees

Additional charges, especially in Florida, anger, confuse phone customers
BEATRICE. E. GARCIA
The Miami Herald

MIAMI — Consider this: You’re new in town and need phone service. Enter BellSouth, the major local phone provider in South Florida, offering basic phone service, with no extras like Caller ID or call waiting, for $11.04. Not bad for someone on a budget.

But your monthly bill reads $27 — nearly $16 are fees and taxes. A single fee of $6.50, called an FCC line charge, accounts for more than a quarter of the total bill. Despite the official-sounding name, this fee isn’t a tax. The dollars go to BellSouth.

In separate deals, CLECs Budget Phone Inc. and Pine Tree Networks have deployed Tekelec’s 3000 Multimedia Gateway Controller and 8000 Multimedia Gateway products.

Budget Phone, out of Shreveport, La., installed the multimedia gateway and controller in May 2004 when its prepaid calling card subscriber base outgrew the capacity of its existing platform. The Tekelec platform now manages all of Budget’s inbound and outbound call traffic and provides real-time updates to the operator’s prepaid call application service. Tekelec’s switching solution allows Budget Phone to offer long-distance services and will serve as the foundation for future applications.

Country Road Communications deployed the gateway controller and gateway for its Pine Tree Networks property in Portland, Maine. The Tekelec switch went live in April 2004 to serve Pine Tree’s growing local and long-distance voice traffic. The platform now manages all of the carrier’s competition long-distance services and supports all new Class 4 traffic.

The Tekelec 3000 and 8000 platforms comprise a next-generation switching solution supporting full-feature IXC tandem, Class 4/5 PRI offload, packet/cell switching, and voice over broadband services on a single platform. It has both circuit and packet fabrics and supports all regulatory requirements of a legacy system. Tekelec acquired the gateway controller through its purchase of Santera.
