CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Covista Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CVST), a provider of bundled telecommunication services for residential and small business customers, today announced that it has completed the previously announced transaction to sell selected
long distance commercial long distance customers, switches and related facilities to PAETEC Communications, Inc., a Fairport, New York based competitive local exchange carrier.
The price for the selected customers and assets was approximately $13.5 million, of which approximately $8.4 million was received at closing. The remaining balance of the purchase price is to be paid in two installments, with the last payment due in nine months, subject to final adjustment. A portion of the initial proceeds was used to repay Covistas revolving credit facility with Capital Source Finance. After closing, Kevin Alward resigned from Covista as Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Board of Directors, to pursue other opportunities.

If you think your phone bill is bad, what would you say to a bill of more than $116,000 a month?
How about, „We got a deal.“ That’s what city officials told the City Council Tuesday night.
That is what the city will pay Verizon California Inc. for local telephone and data transmission services under an agreement approved Tuesday by the City Council. But the agreement actually is a deal, city officials say, saving more than $800,000 a year, or $67,000 a month.

MIAMI -- Some South Florida residents are being targeted in a stock buying scam.
It starts with a simple phone call -- a message left on your voice mail: «Hey Steph, its Wendy. I looked for your old number but couldnt find it but Brandy says this is your new one…» begins the message.
It sounds like someone got the wrong number -- someone with a great hot stock tip: «Theres this new company that supposedly developed some zillion dollar cancer testing and its going to go up big this week.»
This seemingly innocent message is actually a calculated scam.
«I could see how the potential for someone to fall prey to it because it was very personal,» said Nancy Fountain, who received the message on her cell phone Monday.

ATHENS, Greece – I keep hearing how the Greeks overspent for these Olympics, most of it, I presume, in overtime the last month. I keep hearing how theyre going to be bankrupt for decades, how the original budget of $5.2 billion is now closer to $10 billion.
Im not too worried. I dont think the Greeks are, either.
Theyve got phone cards to bankroll it all.
The Olympics are supposed to be all about participation and inclusion and freedom of choice, and they are. In the athletic competitions. But set foot inside an Olympic venue or the Main Press Center, and suddenly those ideals become a distant memory in the name of making a quick buck.
