New Flagship Product sets new standard as communication solution for business customers

GREENVILLE, S.C., July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- NuVox Communications, a leading Integrated Communications Provider (ICP) serving business customers in 16 Southeastern and Midwestern United States, announced today the launch of its new flagship product, FLEXLinx. This complete bundled solution allows the business customer to choose any combination of voice, Internet, and networking services on a single broadband connection.

The FLEXLinx bundle also includes packaged long distance minutes and packaged conference services, and incorporates a «rollover» feature for these packages. Sprint Expands Local Phone Service for Businesses

Sprint Corp. on Monday announced expanding local phone service in 35 markets targeted for mid-sized businesses and larger companies, with packages ranging from local and long-distance calling to voice, Internet and data services.

The telecommunications company said it has been providing the services to businesses in Columbus, Ohio,; Dallas; Houston; Kansas City,; Orlando, Fla;. and St. Louis and has expanded the packages to an additional 29 markets.

Internet voice service may offer sound future, but obstacles stand in way

NEW YORK -- AT&T Corp. says it expects to have 1 million voice over Internet customers by the end of next year, Verizon Communications two weeks ago unveiled plans to offer it in 139 markets and cable TV giant Comcast Corp. has said it anticipates offering the service to all its customers by the end of 2006.

A flurry of recent announcements by telecom companies paint the hot technology as the industry’s future.

So should consumers ditch their traditional land lines now and opt for the cheaper new service? Maybe not yet.

Voice over Internet may be shaking the foundations of telecommunications, but it’s hardly mature, and its regulatory future remains uncertain.

FEA studies pre-pay concept

FIJI Electricity Authority chief executive Rokoseru Nabalarua said it has not ruled out the possibility of pre-paid meters for residents in densely populated areas in urban centres.

He said the system has been successful for more than 1000 families in the Tailevu and Naitasiri areas for a few years.

«The thing is that most of these villages are located in remote areas and it would be hard for our officers to travel to these areas every month and read their meters before sending them their bills,’’ Mr Nabalarua said.

He said most of these villages do not have mail services and the pre-paid system was their best option.
