Long-distance phone heroics

   1501 days 18 hours ago (18.10.2004 21:12)

I saw the Oct. 6, article about the child who saved her daddy’s life through the 911 system. My adult daughter, Jennifer Martyn, did the same for me on Sept. 11, 2004.

I live in Curwensville, she lives in York. We were talking on the phone; she on her cell phone. I went down the steps to the dryer, carrying the cordless phone. I over-stepped the first step. I went down all the steps on my back, after hitting my head on the first step.

Then, she did something as commendable as it was pure intelligence. She used her landline phone to call 911 in York, stayed connected to me through her cell to my cordless phone to be aware of my condition, and asked York’s 911 to forward the emergency call to Clearfield County’s 911 system. It worked. She got me help in less than the time it took for my son to come into the house after he also heard my cries.

Her quick thinking, with my son’s later assistance, got me the medical attention instantly. A marriage of love and technology. I call that heroic.
